Double the Capacity with Wavion SDMA, Improved backhaul and Better Indoor Coverage with Wavion’s Latest Software Release
Wavion is proud to announce the general availability of software version 4.0 for Wavion Base Stations (WBS).
Version 4.0 is provided as a software upgrade to all WBS. All the features and enhancements supported by this version are fully compatible with standards-based 802.11a/b/g clients.

With WBS running version 4.0, using a simple software upgrade, you can enjoy benefits that will be available with competition in the 802.11n second generation products only, expected in 2011. All you need to do is upgrade your base stations and start enjoying the new benefits without any changes to your install base clients.

Thank you for your continuing interest in Wavion products.

If you require any additional information, about Version 4.0 or any other Wavion product or service, please feel free to contact me.

Main features in Version 4.0:

Double Your Capacity with SDMA

SDMA enables the transmission of two concurrent streams to two different clients simultaneously, using the same frequency. As a result the effective downlink capacity is being doubled. SDMA works transparently with all standards-based Wi-Fi clients (802.11a,b,g or n client).

Maximum throughput achieved in previous versions Maximum throughput in version 4.0 (Beamforming, single user – no SDMA) Maximum throughput achieved in version 4.0 (SDMA enabled)
UDP DL 17.7Mbps* UDP DL 17.7Mbps* UDP DL 17.7Mbps*
26Mbps 7.7Mbps 33Mbps 22Mbps 53Mbps 32Mbps
* TCP DL is measured with multiple concurrent streams and large window size.

Note: SDMA requires a feature specific license and is available for ordering: PN 16101103.

Double Your Performance
As part of Wavion ongoing performance improvement, Version 4.0 includes boost performance for UDP and TCP traffic. The improvement (see actual numbers in the table above) is available for all WBS models and hardware revisions.

Solution Improvement - Enhanced Backhaul Option (CPE as backhaul)
Wavion is constantly improving its end to end solution. Version 4.0 takes another step to improve the solution cost-effectiveness. The new “CPE as backhaul” option, uses remote standard 802.11 CPEs communicating in PtMP with Wavion Base Stations. This backhaul option allows you to enjoy the benefits of beamforming and SDMA (e.g. double the throughput) for the backhaul at low cost.

Using CPEs for backhaul, enables operators to build a dual frequency network; where one frequency layer is used for the access and the other frequency is used for backhaul. This approach optimizes the network capacity for both the access and the backhaul. Furthermore, as opposed to mesh architecture, the base station’s backhaul does not reduce the access capacity and will not introduce additional delays to the traffic. This architecture for backhaul will also ensure the QoS is enforced throughout the network; in both the access network and the backhaul.

Better Indoor Coverage
In version 4.0 Wavion is introducing a new, dual zone CPE. This powerful device will allow you to provide the Wi-Fi connection directly to the laptop clients, in any room of the house or office, even if the base station is installed at a distance of 300 meters away from the house.

The Wavion dual zone CPE is a small and compact device which can be easily window mounted. It picks up the WBS-2400 Wi-Fi signal and retransmits it throughout the house / or office to all the laptops in the facility. In the other direction the dual zone CPE transmits the signal coming from the laptop back to the Wavion base station. This simple solution provides a true wireless solution from the operator to the end-user laptops at a very attractive cost.

The Wavion dual zone CPE is available for ordering: WCPE-24-DZ-SR, Part number 32411111.
